Proposal Rejected, Stalker Stabs 16-Year-Old Schoolgirl to Death Near Kolkata While She Was Returning Home

A 16-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly stabbed to death by a stalker in Howrah near Kolkata after she repeatedly rejected his proposals. Police detained the accused.

West Bengal: Kolkata has witnessed a brutal attack against a school girl that is heartbreaking to the core. A 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death by a stalker in West Bengal's Howrah district after allegedly rejecting his marriage proposals repeatedly, police said. The Class 10 student was attacked on Wednesday night while cycling home from her tuition classes. This saddening incident fueled anger and agitation in the area.

The attack reportedly occurred around 7 pm in Chandnibagan area of Mahiyari Khatir Bazar in Howrah's Andul. According to police reports, the alleged accused, 24-year-old Samir Das, intercepts the teenage girl on her way home on her bicycle, before stabbing her with a knife.

Eyewitnesses said, the girl was speared multiple times to the hand, abdomen and neck, causing her to collapse over the road.

What's the reason behind the attack?

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, show that the accused had been stalking the teenager and had made marriage proposals to the girl repeatedly. After the girl continued to reject his proposals, police believe it was the motive for the attack, police said. Police said they are investigating all motives to a certain extent.

Did the Girl Survive Attack?

Locals rushed the critically injured girl to a nearby private hospital, from where she was referred to Howrah District Hospital. Despite receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU), she succumbed to excessive blood loss later that night, hospital sources said.

Residents caught the accused soon after the attack and handed him over to the police after assaulting him. He was admitted to Domjur Rural Hospital before being taken into custody.

Police said the accused, a factory worker from Murshidabad district, has been detained and a detailed investigation is ongoing. Following the incident, Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel and additional police were deployed in the area to maintain law and order as tensions continued to prevail.
