Chandigarh: Four children from Ludhiana drowned in a canal while taking a bath, police said on Saturday.
The children, belonging to Samrat colony, had gone to the Giyaspura canal. They were holding onto a rope but the rope snapped and they swept away, police said, adding they have recovered three bodies.
A heart-wrenching incident in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh shook two families.
Priyanshu Paswan, 15-year-old son of Bhola Paswan, resident of Khutbhar village of Badhalganj police station area and another teenager of Bhirwa village of Deoria district died due to drowning in Rapti river.
This tragic accident happened on Tuesday when both the teenagers went to take bath in the river.

According to the information, Priyanshu Paswan and another teenager of Bhirwa village had gone to take bath on the banks of Rapti river with their friends.
Both the teenagers who entered the river to get relief from the heat, unknowingly went into the deep water.
Due to the strong current and lack of knowledge of the depth, they both started drowning.
People present nearby tried to save them, but by then both had stopped breathing. Rescue operation and police action
As soon as the information of the incident was received, local people and relatives reached the river bank.
With the help of local divers, the bodies of both the teenagers were taken out of the river.
Barhalganj police reached the spot and took the bodies in possession and sent them for postmortem.
The station in-charge said that the incident happened on Wednesday at 9.30, two teenagers went into deep water while bathing, who died, as soon as the information was received, divers were deployed, the bodies were recovered and sent for postmortem.

Priyanshu Paswan was the only child of his parents and was the center of the family's hopes.
On hearing the news of his death, there was mourning in Khutbhar village.
