New Delhi: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Monday challenged Delhi Police to release the complete, unedited video of his detention, alleging that the footage made public by the police showed only a selective version of events surrounding the news of his grandmother’s death.

The controversy intensified after Delhi Police released a video on Sunday showing an officer informing Dipke about his grandmother’s death and offering assistance to help him travel home. Dipke disputed the police account, alleging that he had repeatedly requested access to his phone, cousin and lawyer during detention.

‘Why Are You Not Releasing the Entire Video?’

Speaking to reporters, Dipke alleged that the footage released by Delhi Police was edited and did not show his repeated requests to contact his cousin, use his phone for a few minutes or speak to his lawyer.

He challenged the police to make the complete recording public, saying that the full footage would allow people to understand his account of what happened during custody.

Dipke also claimed that he and his family were not properly informed about his whereabouts during the detention. He questioned why he was allegedly denied the opportunity to contact his lawyer and described access to legal counsel as a basic right. These claims have not been independently established.

Police Say Travel and Phone Assistance Were Offered

Delhi Police had released the video after allegations emerged that Dipke was not allowed to communicate with his family following his grandmother’s death in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district.

According to the police account reported by Hindustan Times, officers informed Dipke about the death and offered assistance, including help arranging travel home and contacting his parents. Police said he declined the offer to return home.

Dipke, however, questioned why he was not allowed to call his cousin, who lived with his grandmother. He also alleged that police asked him to inform his parents about the possibility of being jailed for an extended period while his family was already grieving.

Detention Row Continues After CJP Protest

Dipke was detained along with CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka after arriving in Delhi ahead of the party’s planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The leaders were released on Sunday after spending more than 24 hours in detention, according to media reports.

The CJP has been demanding Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Election Commission has maintained that decisions concerning the revision were taken unanimously.

Dipke’s demand for the complete video has added another dimension to the dispute between the party and Delhi Police. The competing accounts of the detention remain central to the controversy, with Dipke calling for the full footage to be released so the sequence of events can be assessed.
