New Delhi: The Republic Day 2026 parade is underway at Kartavya Path in Delhi, showcasing the nation’s might and military modernity. For the first time, the Suryastra rocket launcher system and the Bhairav ​​Light Commando Battalion were showcased. The parade also showcased other advanced defense equipment, including the BrahMos, Akash missile system, MRSAM, ATAGGS, Dhanush cannon, and Shaktiban.

Introduction of Suryastra and New Technology

The Suryastra Universal Rocket Launcher System, included in the parade for the first time, is capable of surface-to-surface strikes at a range of up to 300 kilometers. It further strengthens India's deep-strike capabilities. The launcher's presence served as a warning to enemies and a moment of pride for the nation.

Historic Step of the Bhairav ​​Light Commando Battalion

The newly formed Bhairav ​​Light Commando Battalion, formed in October 2025, participated in its first parade at the Kartavya Path. The battalion aims to bridge the gap between infantry and special forces. This special forces contingent presents a unique blend of infantry strength and discipline.

Over 6,000 Defence Personnel and Other Attractions

Approximately 6,000 Defence personnel participated in this year's Republic Day parade. Four Zanskar ponies, two Bactrian camels, four eagles, and trained Army dogs also performed for the first time. Additionally, a mixed scout contingent wearing heavy thermal gear, a drone and counter-drone, and a Shaktiban Regiment equipped with loiter missions also made their presence felt.

Chief Guests and Theme

The chief guests of the parade were European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa. The parade's theme was "150 Years of Vande Mataram," which symbolizes patriotism and cultural pride.
