New Delhi: The Supreme Court will continue hearing the petitions filed by Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Gulfisha Fatima, Meeran Haider, and Shifa-ur-Rehman on November 3rd.
The Supreme Court is hearing the case alleging a deep-rooted conspiracy in the Delhi riots. Umar Khalid and other petitioners have challenged the Delhi High Court's decision in the Supreme Court.
The Delhi High Court had rejected their bail pleas in the 2020 Delhi riots case, stating that there was a deep-rooted conspiracy behind the riots.
The bench will continue hearing on November 3rd.
A bench of Justices Arvind Kumar and NV Anjaria is hearing the petitions.
During the hearing on Friday, the bench heard arguments from Meeran Haider, Mohammad Salim Khan, Shifa-ur-Rehman, as well as the Delhi Police. The bench will now continue hearing the petitions on Monday, November 3rd. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Gulfisha Fatima, said she has been in jail for the past five years.
The charge sheet was filed five years ago, and the trial has yet to begin. Singhvi added that Gulfisha Fatima is the only one currently in jail in the Delhi riots case, while the other female accused have been granted bail.
