Bahadurpur: A routine school outing turned into a frightening ordeal on Tuesday when a bus carrying students and staff from a higher secondary school in Bahadurpur met with an accident in Madhya Pradesh. The bus, which was on its way to Sanchi for a picnic, plunged from a bridge approximately twelve feet high in the Vidisha district. At least twenty eight students sustained injuries, some of them serious, causing panic among parents and the local community.

Bus Loses Control Near Sagad River

The accident occurred in the Nateran police station area while the bus was crossing a narrow bridge over the Sagad River. According to preliminary information, the driver attempted to give way to another vehicle approaching from the opposite direction. During this maneuver, the bus reportedly veered too close to the edge of the bridge, lost balance, and fell into the dry riverbed below. The bus was carrying around forty two students along with staff members at the time of the incident.

Chaos and Fear at the Accident Site

As the bus plunged down, terrified screams of children echoed across the area. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle, leaving several students trapped inside. Nearby residents who heard the commotion rushed to the spot and immediately alerted local authorities. Their prompt response played a crucial role in ensuring that rescue efforts began without delay.

Rescue Operations Launched Swiftly

Emergency teams reached the site soon after and began pulling injured children out of the damaged bus. Rescue personnel worked alongside local villagers to safely evacuate the students. Ambulances were arranged quickly, and the injured were rushed to nearby health facilities for medical attention. Officials ensured that children were prioritised during evacuation and treatment.

Medical Response and Condition of Students

Several students suffered fractures to their arms and legs, while a few sustained head and body injuries due to the fall. Four to five students were admitted to Vidisha Medical College with serious injuries and remain under observation. Medical staff confirmed that timely intervention helped prevent the situation from worsening. The remaining injured students were treated for minor injuries at nearby hospitals and later discharged after medical examination.

Students Sent Home After Treatment

After receiving first aid and medical clearance, around thirty five students were safely sent back to their homes. Officials from the education department and district administration were present at hospitals to oversee treatment and arrange transportation. Authorities also coordinated with school representatives to inform parents and ensure that every child was accounted for.

Officials Assure No Loss of Life

Local representatives confirmed that all students are currently stable and there has been no loss of life in the incident. The injured children belong to the Ashoknagar district and were on an educational excursion at the time of the accident. Authorities expressed relief that the tragedy did not result in fatalities, while assuring families that proper care and support are being provided.

Probe Ordered Into the Incident

District officials have ordered a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. The role of road conditions, bridge safety, and driving practices will be examined. Authorities have also emphasized the need for strict safety checks for school vehicles, especially during excursions and long distance travel involving children.
