The Meteorological Department issued a warning on Wednesday for dense fog in 6 states, including Delhi, and a cold wave warning for 4 states.
Excluding the hilly states, the minimum temperature has dropped below 10 degrees Celsius in most places in several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for very dense fog in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
Along with the fog, people will also have to face the impact of the cold wave. The Meteorological Department has already warned that the risk of cold wave and very dense fog may intensify in many parts of Northwest and Central India on Wednesday.
Bone-chilling cold in UP, Uttarakhand
On January 7th, there is a high probability of cold day conditions in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, and during January 7-8, in East Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Sikkim.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a high probability of dense fog in the morning over Northwest, Central, East, and Northeast India during the next 5-7 days.
An orange alert has also been issued for a cold wave in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh, along with the possibility of very dense fog.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated in its latest report that cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Odisha from the 7th to the 9th, over Rajasthan from the 8th to the 11th, over Madhya Pradesh on the 7th and 8th, and over Vidarbha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh during January 7th-8th.
