Hardoi: The brutal killing of 26-year-old Shilpi Kushwaha in Hardoi has escalated into a major political flashpoint, with Akhilesh Yadav, Chief of the Samajwadi Party, arriving to meet the victim’s family today. Authorities have stepped up security across the region ahead of his visit.
Gruesome Killing Shocks Village
The incident occurred on April 13 in Garhi Rasulpur village under the Mallawan police station area. According to reports, Shilpi stepped out of her house to dispose of garbage when she was allegedly attacked with a spade by a local resident, Rishabh Dwivedi. She died on the spot, triggering outrage among villagers and sparking widespread condemnation.
Swift Police Action, Followed by Scrutiny
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, police registered a murder case against Rishabh Dwivedi and his father, Pramod. Rishabh was arrested on April 15, while Pramod was taken into custody on April 19.
However, questions over the police response soon surfaced. In a significant administrative move, Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena suspended Mallawan Station House Officer Shivakant Pandey on April 28, citing lapses in handling the case.
Social Media Under Watch
Authorities have also acted against provocative online content linked to the incident. On April 24, cases were registered against 12 identified individuals and 10 unnamed persons for allegedly posting inflammatory remarks. Officials warned of strict action against any attempts to disturb communal harmony.
Political Row Intensifies
The case has taken a sharp political turn, with the Samajwadi Party targeting the state government over law-and-order concerns. Tensions escalated after several SP workers were reportedly placed under house arrest on April 22. A day later, an SP delegation en route to meet the victim’s family was stopped near Sandila, further fueling the controversy.
High Alert Ahead of Akhilesh Yadav’s Visit
Akhilesh Yadav is expected to spend around 45 minutes with the bereaved family in Garhi Rasulpur today. In anticipation, the administration has deployed a heavy police presence across the village and nearby areas to prevent any untoward incidents.
Officials say all necessary arrangements have been made to maintain law and order during the high-profile visit, as the case continues to draw both public attention and political scrutiny.
