New Delhi: Sonam Wangchuk hunger strike entered 19 day on Thursday, Climate activist shared a health update and addressed appeals urging him to end the hunger strike.

Sonam Wangchuk is on a hunger strike demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation over irregularities in the NEET examination.

Wangchuk said, people should not worry about him and assured them that his medical tests indicate that he can carry on for some more days. “My condition is not so bad that I would die in 2-4 days,” Wangchuk said in a video message.

In the meantime, the Delhi High Court is set to hear a petition seeking Wangchuk's hospitalisation and force-feeding. Wangchuk's hunger strike entered Day 19 on Thursday, and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has also called for a mass hunger strike today.

Sonam Wangchuk Hunger Strike

That's what a frail-looking Sonam Wangchuk, who entered the 19th day of his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on Thursday, demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation over irregularities in the NEET examination, said in a video message posted late last night.

Sonam Wangchuk’s todays health update

In its most recent update regarding Wangchuk’s health, doctors said he remains "very weak" and is under round-the-clock medical supervision. His weight has dropped to 57.15 kg, down 400 grams in the past 24 hours and 8.9 kg since he began his indefinite hunger strike.

Doctors recorded his blood pressure at 105/76 mmHg, blood sugar at 80 mg/dL, oxygen saturation at 97 per cent, and said his hydration levels are fair.

20 July at Parliament

Taking a step ahead with its campaign, the CJP announced a one-day mass hunger strike and renewed its appeal for citizens to join the July 20 Parliament march.

CJP demanding a transparent examination system, accountability for repeated paper leaks and the removal of the education minister.

"Until the resignation happens, we'll stand firm. 20 July, march to Parliament," the organisation said in a post on X.

Furthermore, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke on Wednesday accused the Centre of remaining silent despite Wangchuk's deteriorating health.

Protest Over Exam Irregularities Gains Momentum

The CJP began its agitation on June 20 over alleged irregularities in the examination system, including paper leaks and concerns linked to NEET.

Dipke again targeted the government, saying repeated paper leaks, student suicides and lack of accountability had forced students and activists to take to the streets.

The protest has now expanded beyond education-related issues and also includes demands for accountability over matters such as the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
