New Delhi: Climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk is currently stable but remains weak due to prolonged fasting and dehydration, Safdarjung Hospital said on Saturday after he was shifted from Delhi's Jantar Mantar for medical care.
In an official statement, the hospital said Wangchuk requires continuous observation, monitoring and treatment to restore his health parameters. "He is weak due to prolonged fasting and dehydration. Although he is currently stable, he requires continuous observation, monitoring and treatment," the statement said.

According to Delhi Police sources, a medical team from Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital examined Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar on Saturday morning and advised immediate hospitalisation due to his deteriorating condition. Officials said Wangchuk initially refused to be admitted, but was later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in an ambulance following medical advice.
Safdarjung Hospital has deployed two doctors and two paramedics to monitor and treat him.
Following his admission, Wangchuk's wife Gitanjali J. Angmo posted on X, requesting that no oral or intravenous treatment be administered without the consent of his family and the doctors who have been monitoring his health during the hunger strike.

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke said the movement would continue despite Wangchuk's hospitalisation and reiterated plans for the proposed July 20 march to Parliament. He also escalated the party's demands, saying they would now seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resignation in addition to demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
AAP leader Manish Sisodia criticised the Centre over the police action, while NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar termed the government's handling of the protest "irresponsible", saying the agitation reflected genuine concerns over alleged examination irregularities and would continue despite Wangchuk's hospitalisation.
