Abhijeet Dipke announces Indefinite Hunger Strike After Sonam Wangchuk removed from Jantar Mantar

Cockroach Janta Party leader Abhijeet Dipke announced an indefinite hunger strike following the removal and  hospitalisation of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.

New Delhi: The protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar took a new turn on Saturday after Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leader Abhijeet Dipke announced an indefinite hunger strike following the removal and  hospitalisation of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.

Activist Sonam Wangchuk was taken to hospital after his health deteriorated following hunger strike and the protesters have been removed from the protest site Jantar Mantar.

Safdarjung Hospital said, "Mr Sonam Wangchuck has been admitted at Safdarjung hospital for required health care. He is weak due to prolonged fasting and dehydration. Although he is currently stable, he requires continuous observation, monitoring and treatment to restore his body parameters."

Dipke alleges assault and detention

In a post on X, Dipke claimed that he had been beaten and detained by the Delhi Police. "I have been beaten up and put under detention by Delhi Police," he wrote.

In another post, he alleged that police prevented him from leaving the place where he was staying and claimed that Wangchuk was being forcibly removed from the protest site. He also alleged that students participating in the protest were subjected to a lathi-charge.
