Sopore Police launches major UAPA crackdown against JeI-linked properties
Baramulla: Sopore Police has carried out a major legal crackdown in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, attaching multiple properties allegedly connected with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu & Kashmir under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The action was taken in Dooru area of Sopore after authorities completed the required legal procedures following an investigation registered under FIR No. 42/2025 at Sopore Police Station under Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA.
According to police officials, the attached assets include two double-storeyed buildings, six shops and nearly two kanals of land. The properties were identified during the investigation after examining official records, revenue documents and verification from concerned government authorities.
The latest action highlights the continued focus of security agencies on identifying and acting against properties allegedly linked to proscribed organisations and suspected support networks in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said the attached properties were associated with Islamia Model School in Dooru, which has remained closed since 2022. During the investigation, Sopore Police examined ownership details and other relevant documents before submitting a detailed report regarding the properties.
Based on the dossier prepared by Sopore Police, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, issued an order on August 12, 2026, notifying the properties under Section 8(1) of UAPA. The notification allowed authorities to proceed with further legal action against the identified assets.
Following the notification, Sopore Police sought further orders from the District Magistrate, Baramulla, under Sections 8(3) and 8(4) of the UAPA. After receiving approval, police officials, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate, carried out the attachment process at the site in accordance with legal provisions. Authorities maintained that the action was conducted after following due procedure and completing all mandatory requirements under the law.
The attachment of properties is part of a wider strategy by security agencies to disrupt assets and resources allegedly linked with banned organisations.
Officials have repeatedly stated that properties connected with proscribed groups will be dealt with through legal action to prevent their possible misuse for activities prohibited under the UAPA. The move also reflects the increasing use of financial and property investigations as part of counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
