New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on a petition filed by Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders challenging alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi sought responses from the poll panel and tagged the pleas with petitions already pending before the court that challenge aspects of the SIR exercise in different states.

Supreme Court Seeks Response from Election Commission

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi took up the petition and sought responses from the poll panel. The plea raises concerns over the SIR exercise and alleged irregularities in the deletion of voters’ names from electoral rolls.

Rahul Gandhi, INDIA Bloc Leaders Challenge SIR

Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders have challenged aspects of the voter-list revision process, raising concerns about its potential impact on eligible voters. The petition brings the SIR exercise and allegations of voter deletions under judicial scrutiny.

Notice Does Not Mean Final Verdict

The issuance of notice means the Supreme Court has sought a response from the respondents. It does not, by itself, establish the allegations made in the petition or indicate a final ruling on the legality of the SIR exercise.
