SC to hear J&K statehood plea on Friday
New Delhi: The Supreme Court is likely to hear on Friday 8 August a plea seeking directions to the Centre for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, currently a Union Territory, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
The matter was mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai, by Senior Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan. Sankaranarayanan mentioned that the matter is shown as listed on August 8 and requested that it not be deleted from the list of that day.

Chief Justice of India accepted the request of the Senior Advocate and said that the matter will not be deleted from the list on 8 August.
The application said that it is necessary to pass appropriate directions to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible and in a time-bound manner.
A college teacher Zahoor Ahmed Bhat and activist Khurshaid Ahmad Malik have filed the applications. In the applications they said that despite the assurance given by the Solicitor General that Jammu and Kashmir statehood will be restored, the Centre has not taken any steps to restore the statehood to J&K so far.
