New Delhi: A joint operation by the Indian Army, Delhi Police Special Cell and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is underway in Delhi’s Narela to destroy rocket launchers recovered in connection with the arrest of suspected terrorists in Manipur, news agency PTI reported on Wednesday, citing sources.
The rocket launchers were part of a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosive material seized during a joint search operation in Manipur. The weapons were later brought to Delhi for examination and safe disposal.
According to sources, the recovered cache included rocket launchers, rifles, hundreds of rounds of live ammunition, detonators and other explosive materials.
Specialised teams are carrying out the disposal exercise in a controlled manner. Security arrangements have also been put in place around the operation site in Narela to ensure safety during the process.
The report, however, did not disclose details about when and where the suspected terrorists were arrested in Manipur.
The recovery was linked to an operation against militant networks in the northeastern state, where security forces have been conducting searches and operations against banned and active insurgent groups.
Earlier, security forces in Manipur arrested six suspected terrorists belonging to different outfits during separate operations in Imphal West and Imphal East districts, according to reports citing officials.
In another development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested S Palal Thadou, an alleged “finance head” of the proscribed United Kuki National Army (UKNA), in connection with an April 7 IED attack case in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.
Thadou was later produced before the Special NIA Court in Imphal and was sent to 10 days of police custody.
