Rahul Gandhi said 'Such treatment of Dalits is unacceptable. This is not just a matter of 10-15 days, but systematic discrimination has been going on for years. Some officers were working together with the system to destroy careers. This is not just an issue of one officer, but it is sending a wrong message to millions of Dalits across the country that no matter how intelligent you are, if you are a Dalit, you can be crushed.'
Rahul Gandhi further said that Puran Kumar's family is being put under immense pressure, which is unacceptable. He said 'The family wants respect and justice. Puran Kumar has been insulted. Now at least they should get justice and the family should be allowed to live with dignity.'

On 7 October, senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar committed suicide in the soundproof basement of his Chandigarh home. He was a 2009-batch IPS officer of the Haryana cadre. In his suicide note, he accused 13 officers, including Haryana DGP Shatrughan Kapoor and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia, of caste-based harassment, mental torture, and ruining his career. He also left a will for his wife.
IAS Amneet Puran Kumar has filed a complaint with the police, based on which a case has been registered. She has clearly stated that she will not conduct the postmortem or cremation until the accused officers are named in the FIR and arrested. This incident has created a stir within the Haryana police and administration.
