New Delhi: The biggest problem of truck drivers going on long journeys in India is proper arrangement of rest and stay. Often these drivers become victims of accidents due to lack of adequate sleep and rest. In view of this serious problem, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has taken a commendable initiative and launched the 'Apna Ghar' app.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri himself gave information about this app on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, "Most accidents on the highway are caused by fatigue and lack of sleep of drivers. The 'Apna Ghar' app has come as a solution to this problem, where drivers will get the necessary facilities at very cheap rates."

What is the specialty of the 'Apna Ghar' app?

The 'Apna Ghar' app is a mobile platform that provides truck drivers with information and booking facilities for convenient rest houses or hotels located along the highways across the country. This app can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store, and so far it has been downloaded by more than 50,000 truck drivers.

Through the app, drivers can get information about nearby available rest points and can book directly from mobile. Options like UPI, card, and wallet are also provided for payment.

What facilities will be available?

Basic facilities like air-conditioned rooms, healthy food, self-cooking places, hot and cold water, toilets and bathrooms, parking, and comfortable beds have been provided for truck drivers at every 'Apna Ghar' center.

Drivers will have to pay only ₹ 112 (8 hours) for these facilities. But if they fill 50 liters or more of diesel from Bharat Petroleum, then this service will be available absolutely free.

Drivers' safety and convenience level will increase

Hardeep Singh Puri said that this app will ensure road safety as well as the well-being and respect of the people working in the transport sector. With this, truck drivers will no longer stop in an unsafe situation on the roadside but will be able to stop at a structured and safe place.

Apart from this, booking history, cancellation options, and location-based search features are also available in the app so that users can improve their experience.
