New Delhi: While there has been recent tension between India and the US over trade, a positive sign has emerged. US Ambassador-designate to India, Sergio Gor, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed several key issues.
He described the meeting as "incredible" and also said that US President Donald Trump considers Prime Minister Modi "his special friend."
Sergio Gor is currently on a six-day visit to India, accompanied by US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Michael J. Rigas. During this visit, he is meeting several senior Indian officials.
Prime Minister Modi also wrote on Twitter that he hopes Ambassador Gor's tenure will further strengthen the India-US strategic partnership.

The talks between Gore and PM Modi covered key topics such as defense, trade, and technology. The strategic role of critical minerals was also discussed. Gore made it clear that the United States considers its relationship with India extremely important.

Sergio Gore also met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra (the "Misri" here is likely a typo). These meetings discussed policy-level issues regarding the India-US partnership.
It is noteworthy that the United States recently imposed tariffs of up to 50% on Indian products, escalating tensions between the two countries. Furthermore, the US imposed a further 25% tariff on India's purchase of crude oil from Russia. India termed these decisions as unfair and unreasonable.
Following this meeting, it is hoped that despite recent differences between India and the United States, both countries will move forward to strengthen their relations while keeping their strategic interests in mind.

Sergio Gor's statement and his meeting with Prime Minister Modi indicate that the United States is keen to improve its relationship with India. Mutual respect and understanding between the leaders of the two countries could strengthen this relationship in the future, despite some current economic differences.
