Vegetable prices increase
Chandigarh: Due to frequent changes in the weather, the production of local vegetables is being adversely affected. Due to low production, the prices of bottle gourd and zucchini have increased two to three times in a month.
The prices of tomato, ladyfinger, arvi have also increased. Cabbage and peas are being supplied from Himachal Pradesh, whose prices are sky high. The kitchen budget has been spoiled due to the increase in vegetable prices.
The weather is changing frequently in monsoon. Sometimes it rains and sometimes it remains cloudy for several days. When it rains, the fields get flooded and the production of vine vegetables is affected.
In this season, insects are also produced more which cause more damage to the vines and flowers on the plants. Currently it is the peak season of bottle gourd and zucchini but due to low production, the prices have increased a lot.
Due to skyrocketing vegetable prices, the kitchen budget has gone haywire. Housewives have to think about cooking vegetables in the morning and evening. Almost twice the budget is being spent on cooking vegetables at both the times.
Peas and cabbage come from Himachal in summer
Local production of cabbage and peas stops in summer. In this season, both these vegetables are brought to the region from Himachal Pradesh. The prices of both the vegetables are sky high.
