Delhi Demonstrators Demand Justice for Deepu Chandra
New Delhi: Activists of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) protested in Delhi today on Tuesday against the killing of Hindu youth Deepu Chandra in Bangladesh. The main objective of the protest was to demand justice for the victim's family and to call for the safety of Indian students, especially medical students, stranded in Bangladesh. The protest began at 11:00 AM outside the Bangladesh High Commission.
The Bangladeshi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Indian High Commissioner over the incident. This is the second time this month that the High Commissioner has been summoned. The Ministry stated that relations between the two countries have become strained following the incident. Anti-India protests have occurred in Bangladesh before, including those related to the death of Sharif Osman Hadi.

On December 20, a small and peaceful protest was held outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi. Only 20-25 young people participated. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the protest did not pose any threat to the security of the High Commission. The protest was solely to demand justice and express sympathy for the victim's family.
On December 22, Hindu organizations and minority groups protested against Deepu's killing in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka. The protesters said that Deepu was innocent and falsely accused of blasphemy. He was beaten, hanged from a tree, and burned alive by extremists. The protesters claimed that more than 50 non-Muslims have been killed in Bangladesh since January of this year.
