New Delhi: Opposition pick for Vice-President poll Justice (Retd) B Sudershan Reddy filed his nomination papers today. B Sudershan is facing the NDA nominee CP Radhakrishnan, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Justice B Sudershan Reddy is a former judge of the Supreme Court. His name was announced as the joint Opposition candidate on Wednesday. Opposition parties Leaders accompanied him during the filing of his papers in Parliament.

What B Sudarshan Reddy Said?

After filing his nomination, opposition Vice Presidential candidate B. Sudarshan Reddy said that he has submitted his nomination with deep respect and full dedication to the basic principles of the Constitution. He also said that my life is deeply rooted in democratic customs. The real strength of India lies in the dignity of every individual.

He further said that as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the Vice President has the responsibility to protect the highest traditions of parliamentary democracy. If elected, I pledge to discharge my responsibility by giving priority to fairness and dialogue.

  • Birth

Justice B Sudershan Reddy was born on 8 July 1946 at Akula Mylaram Village, erstwhile Ibrahimpatnam Taluq, presently Kandukur Revenue Mandal, Rangareddy District, in Telangana in an agricultural family.

  • Education

After doing his BA and LLB, Justice Reddy enrolled as a lawyer in the Andhra Pradesh Bar Council in the year 1971. He practised in writ, civil and constitutional matters in the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

  • Profession

Reddy was the government advocate in the Andhra Pradesh High Court from 1988 to 1990. Later, he served as an additional permanent advocate for the Central Government. Through his legal expertise and clean image, he earned respected place in the judiciary.'

Justice Reddy As Supreme Court Judge

Justice Reddy was appointed as a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on 2 May 1995. He then became the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on 5 December 2005. The highest achievement of his judicial journey came on 12 January 2007, when he was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of India. He retired on 8 July 2011.
