Kolkata: The Election Commission (EC) has directed a repoll in 15 polling stations across two assembly constituencies in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district.

Voting will be conducted on Saturday, May 2, from 7 AM to 6 PM in 11 booths of the 142-Magrahat Paschim constituency and 4 booths of the 143-Diamond Harbour constituency.

These polling stations went to vote on April 29 during the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections. However, the EC has declared the polling at these booths void under Section 58(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

According to the Commission’s order, the decision was taken based on reports submitted by Returning Officers and election observers.

The EC had received requests for repolling in 77 booths across four assembly constituencies in South 24 Parganas following the second phase of voting. It remains unclear whether repolling will also be ordered in the remaining 62 booths.
