New Delhi: During the ongoing winter session of Parliament, the central government is preparing to introduce an important bill in the Lok Sabha. The central government has introduced a bill that will replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA).

The new bill is named 'Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Rural)'. Earlier on Monday, the BJP issued a whip asking all its MPs to participate in the Lok Sabha proceedings from December 15 to 19. Let's tell you what changes are proposed in the new bill…

What is G RAM G?

The central government is preparing to introduce a new law to replace MNREGA. The related bill is being prepared for introduction in the Lok Sabha. The central government has named this new bill 'Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Rural)', which will be known as VB G RAM G in simpler terms.

What will change with the new law?

According to the central government, the new bill aims to fulfill the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Under the MNREGA scheme, 100 days of work are guaranteed in rural areas. However, the new bill proposes to increase the 100-day guarantee to 125 days. It is worth noting that the MNREGA scheme has proven to be a game-changer in the last two decades.

Likely to be introduced in Parliament

It is noteworthy that a copy of this bill has been distributed to Lok Sabha MPs. This bill is to be introduced in Parliament. If it is passed by both houses of Parliament, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 will be repealed. This new scheme will replace MNREGA. It is believed that this step by the central government will give a new definition to employment in rural areas.

Why is the government doing this?

Even before its introduction in the Lok Sabha, politics has intensified over this issue. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi questioned why the government is doing this. She asked why they are removing Mahatma Gandhi's name. Priyanka Gandhi said that Mahatma Gandhi was one of the greatest leaders of this country, the world, and in history. I don't understand why the government is going to do this.
