NSA Ajit Doval Recalls PM Modi's 1st Question After Pahalgam Attack (Img: X)
New Delhi: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has recalled the moments after the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, revealing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first concern was to know who was responsible for the deadly assault.
In an interview for the Discovery docuseries “Declassified: Operation Sindoor”, Doval said PM Modi sought complete details about the attack and wanted an immediate assessment of those behind it.
“Who has done it? Who is responsible? We should be very clear who the perpetrators are. I want it immediately,” Doval recalled PM Modi asking.
Doval said the information gathered after the attack played a key role in planning Operation Sindoor, the military operation launched in response to the terror strike.
The Pahalgam attack on April 22, 2025, claimed the lives of 26 civilians and triggered a major security response from India. According to Doval, the operation was focused on targeting terror infrastructure linked to cross-border terrorism in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Speaking about India’s approach towards terrorism, Doval said the country’s restraint should not be interpreted as weakness. “India’s generosity or India being tolerant should not be mistaken for its weakness,” he said, adding that India was prepared to take strong action when required.
Doval said Operation Sindoor reflected India’s determination to respond firmly to terror threats. He added that when PM Modi says the operation remains alive, it reflects the country’s continued commitment to eliminating terrorism.
The NSA also said India would go as far as necessary to protect its sovereignty and national security.
