Who is Nupur Bora? ACS Officer arrested in land scam; 2 crore cash and gold seized

Dispur: Nupur Bora is a 2019 batch ACS (Assam Civil Services) officer from Assam. She was born in Golaghat district of Assam. She received a degree in English Literature from Guwahati University and also studied at Cotton College. Before joining the civil service, Nupur Bora was working as a lecturer at the District Institute of Education and Training.

Beginning Of Administrative Career

Nupur Bora started her administrative career as Assistant Commissioner in Karbi Anglong. She was in this post from March 2019 to June 2023. After this, in June 2023, she was posted as Circle Officer in Barpeta district. Later she was transferred to Kamrup district.

Land Scam Case

During her posting in Barpeta district, serious allegations have been leveled against Nupur Bora that she transferred land worth crores of rupees through illegal means. These lands belonged to government and religious trusts, which were sold to suspicious people. The investigation revealed that most of the lands belonged to Hindu families, which were allegedly transferred to the names of Muslims. Apart from this, despite just 6 years of duty, his wealth has increased excessively, which is under question.

Cash And Gold Recovered From House

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has formed a special team to investigate the matter. This team raided the house of Nupur Bora, where more than Rs 90 lakh in cash and gold jewelery worth about Rs 1 crore was recovered. Overall, his assets are said to be around Rs 2 crore.

Nupur Bora has been arrested and sent to police custody. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed a thorough investigation into the matter and said that there will be no laxity in legal action against any officer.
