BJP to Decide West Bengal’s New Chief Minister Today

West Bengal’s political landscape is witnessing a historic shift. After securing a decisive mandate in the 2026 Assembly elections, the BJP is moving swiftly to form the state government. A pivotal meeting of the BJP legislative party is scheduled today at 4 PM at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend as an observer, alongside Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who will serve as a co-observer. During the session, the newly elected MLAs will elect the leader of the legislative party—the state’s next Chief Minister. While several names have been discussed internally, the final decision will be announced only at the meeting.

Amit Shah’s Presence Highlights Meeting’s Significance

The BJP leadership regards today’s meeting as critical. Shah’s presence underscores the importance of the occasion, signaling the party’s focus on a smooth transition of power. Analysts say this decision will set the tone for the party’s governance and political strategy in the state.

Swearing-in Ceremony Tomorrow at Brigade Parade Ground

The swearing-in of the new Chief Minister and council of ministers is scheduled for May 9 at 10 AM at Kolkata’s iconic Brigade Parade Ground. State BJP President Samik Bhattacharya confirmed that the ceremony will be a grand affair, attended by the Prime Minister, NDA Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, and party leaders from across BJP-ruled states. Reports suggest that along with the Chief Minister, around two dozen ministers will take the oath.

BJP workers and supporters are already celebrating the historic victory, with expectations high for decisive action on development and law and order. All eyes are now on today’s legislative party meeting to see who will emerge as West Bengal’s new Chief Minister.
