Yogi accuse Opposition of promoting political anarchy (Img: IANS)
New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday criticised the Opposition, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and its supporters, saying young people should contribute to the country’s future rather than serve the political ambitions of individuals.
His remarks came amid a political row over comments by senior advocate Prashant Bhushan, who said protests against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar had turned into a “fight for regime change” and described it as a “democratic right” of citizens.
The controversy intensified after All India Students' Association (AISA) president Neha Bora praised Bangladesh’s Gen Z movement, describing it as an “inspiration” for young people in India. Her remarks drew criticism from the BJP.
In a post on X, Adityanath said, “In a democracy, the path to power is paved by a popular mandate, not by anarchy.”
He alleged that those seeking regime change in India along the lines of events in Bangladesh wanted to push young people towards disorder instead of nation-building.
“Those who dream of a regime change in India, modelled after the events in Bangladesh, seek to place tools of anarchy - rather than the torch of nation-building - into the hands of the youth,” he said.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also accused certain elements of using electoral reform, demands for justice and the language of democracy to create instability.
He said such efforts would not undermine the country's democratic foundations, describing Indian democracy as a vast banyan tree sustained by public trust.
“Our youth are meant to shape the future of India, not to serve the hunger for power of any individual,” he stated.
Adityanath further claimed that people had recognised these “deceitful impostors” and kept them away from power. He alleged that the same groups were now attempting to capture power by pushing the country towards unrest.
“Now, these same elements want to seize power by throwing the country into a fireball of anarchy. The country will never allow this political conspiracy to succeed,” he said.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also criticised the Congress and its allies, questioning their faith in the people's mandate.
“The intentions of the Congress and its allies are no longer hidden from anyone. Why do those who speak of a regime change in India, on the lines of regime change in Bangladesh, have no faith in the people's mandate?” he said in a post on X.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Dhami alleged that the Congress leader was looking for alternative ways to gain power after failing to secure it through democratic means.
“Having failed to attain power through democratic means, the 'prince' of the Congress party is now seeking a path to power by fostering anarchy,” he said.
Dhami maintained that attempts to gain power by questioning constitutional institutions, creating unrest and disrupting India's development would not succeed.

“Since 2014, the people of this country have witnessed development and progress - a stark contrast to the era of Congress rule, which was defined only by corruption and plunder,” the Uttarakhand Chief Minister said.
Echoing Adityanath's position, Dhami added that democratic power must come from the electorate rather than disorder, asserting that the route to government was through votes, not anarchy.
