Rules for hoisting the tricolor on Independence Day (Independence Day Flag Hoisting Rules): Who has the right to hoist the flag? The Prime Minister has the right to hoist the national flag on 15th August, who hoists the flag from the Red Fort in Delhi. Apart from this, the Chief Minister at the state level, the District Magistrate or senior officers at the district level hoist the flag. Common citizens can also hoist the flag, but it is necessary to follow the rules. Time of flag hoisting: On Independence Day, the tricolor is hoisted in the morning. This ceremony usually takes place at sunrise or around 9 am. After this the national anthem is sung and salute is given. Method of hoisting and lowering: On August 15, the flag is tied at the bottom, which is pulled upwards by pulling the rope and then opened. This is called 'hoisting'. Whereas on January 26, the flag is already up and only 'inauguration' is done. Do not let the tricolor touch or fall on the ground: The tricolor should never fall on the ground. It is necessary to hoist and handle it in a clean and respectful manner. Dirty or torn flags cannot be used. How long can the flag be hoisted? According to the Indian Flag Code 2002, now even common citizens can hoist the flag day and night, provided it is displayed with respect and is in good condition. Color and size of the flag: The ratio of the tricolor should be 3:2. It is saffron at the top, white in the middle and green at the bottom. In the middle is the Ashoka Chakra with 24 spokes in blue. Do not put any other object with the flag: No picture, symbol, word or flower can be pasted on the tricolor. This is a violation of the rule and doing so can be a punishable offense. Respect during the national anthem: The national anthem is sung while hoisting the flag. At that time everyone should stand in attention posture and give respect to the tricolor. The national anthem should be completed in 52 seconds.
