Patna: Bihar is gearing up for a major political reshuffle as the state government prepares to expand its cabinet. On May 7, a total of 27 ministers will be sworn in at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna, marking a significant step in the coalition government’s consolidation.

Inclusive Representation Across Parties

The upcoming cabinet expansion will include ministers from multiple political parties. Reports indicate that 12 ministers from the BJP, 11 from the JD(U), and two from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas) will take oath. Additionally, one minister each from the HAM Party and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLMO) will be inducted.

Six Ministerial Posts to Remain Vacant

In a strategic move, six ministerial positions will be kept vacant for now, allowing flexibility for future political adjustments. With the total number of legislators, Bihar’s cabinet can theoretically have up to 36 ministers, including the Chief Minister, but the government is currently administering oaths to only 27.

High-Level Consultations Ahead of Expansion

Political maneuvering has intensified in the run-up to the reshuffle. Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary recently visited Delhi to consult top BJP leaders. Following this, he returned to Patna for discussions with Nitish Kumar, signaling that the final decisions on ministerial appointments are near completion.

Strengthening the Government Structure

Bihar’s current administration features a BJP Chief Minister alongside two JD(U) Deputy Chief Ministers, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav. With the induction of new ministers, the coalition government is expected to further consolidate its administrative strength.

Focus on Coalition Stability

The cabinet expansion underscores the government’s focus on maintaining a delicate balance between coalition partners. Careful consideration is being given to party representation to ensure political stability and cohesive governance in Bihar.
