New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi to update the voter database and ensure only eligible citizens remain on the electoral list. The verification exercise will begin with door-to-door visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from June 30 and continue until July 29.

How the Verification Process Will Work

As part of the revision, BLOs will visit every household to verify voter details. Each registered voter will receive two copies of an Enumeration Form. One copy must be completed and submitted to the BLO, who will issue an acknowledgement receipt. If a residence is found locked, officials will make at least three attempts before concluding the verification.

Important Dates to Remember

The Election Commission has announced a detailed timeline for the exercise. Door-to-door verification will run from June 30 to July 29, followed by the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 5. Citizens can file claims and objections between August 5 and September 4, while all objections will be settled by October 3. The final electoral roll will be published on October 7.

Delhi's Current Electoral Profile

According to the ECI, Delhi has over 1.45 crore registered voters, including more than 77 lakh male voters, nearly 68 lakh female voters and 1,024 third-gender voters. The capital also has over 76,000 registered voters with disabilities, more than 3.29 lakh first-time voters aged 18-19, and 192 voters above the age of 100. Voting will be conducted through 13,033 polling stations.

Purpose Behind the Exercise

The Election Commission says the revision aims to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls by removing ineligible names while ensuring every eligible voter is included. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with BLOs and complete the verification process to avoid any disruption to their voting rights in future elections.
