
DK Shivakumar becomes new Chief Minister of Karnataka
Bengaluru: Eight-time legislator and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar was sworn in as the 34th Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Lok Bhavan, completing the leadership transition from outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah that began last week.
Ahead of the ceremony, the Congress party released the list of 13 cabinet ministers who will take office alongside the new Chief Minister. G Parameshwara has been appointed Deputy Chief Minister, while other ministers include Yathindra Siddaramaiah, UT Khader, MB Patil, KJ George, KH Muniyappa, Satish Jarkiholi, Ramalinga Reddy, Krishna Byregowda, Priyank Kharge, Ishwar Khandre, Byrathi Suresh, and Sharan Prakash Patil. The cabinet is expected to be expanded following the Rajya Sabha elections.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha; Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha; and Congress Chief Ministers VD Satheeshan (Kerala), Revanth Reddy (Telangana), and Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu (Himachal Pradesh). A diverse group of guests, including religious leaders, students, farmers’ representatives, Dalit leaders, pourakarmikas, and Kannada activists, were also present.
Siddaramaiah stepped down last week as Chief Minister on the direction of the Congress high command, clearing the way for Shivakumar to assume the state’s top post.
