NDA Partners in Assam

The NDA in Assam currently comprises the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). These parties have representation in the Assembly.

In addition, the Rabha Hasong Joutha Sangram Samiti (RHJSS) and Janashakti Party (JP) are also alliance partners, though they do not hold any sitting MLAs at present.

Sarma said that after completing internal formalities, state leaders will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah with a list of probable candidates to finalise the next steps.

Election Timeline After Delimitation

Elections for the 126-member Assam Assembly are expected to be held between March and April 2026. This will mark the first state election after the delimitation exercise conducted in 2023.

The redrawing of constituency boundaries has led to changes in several seats. Some constituencies have been shifted from reserved to unreserved categories and vice versa, creating new political dynamics for both the ruling coalition and the opposition.

On the opposition side, the Indian National Congress holds 26 seats, the All India United Democratic Front has 15 MLAs, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) holds one seat, and there is one Independent legislator.

With preparations intensifying, political parties are now focusing on candidate selection and campaign strategies ahead of the crucial polls.
