New Delhi: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has raised concerns over Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), saying that any doubt regarding the voting process could impact people’s confidence in the democratic system.

Addressing the issue, Mayawati stressed the importance of ensuring transparency and credibility in elections. She said that public trust in the electoral process is essential for a healthy democracy.

The BSP leader said that concerns related to voting systems should be addressed to ensure that every citizen has complete faith in the election process.

Her remarks come amid a continuing political debate over EVMs, with opposition parties at different times raising questions about transparency, while the Election Commission of India has maintained that EVMs and VVPAT systems have multiple safeguards to ensure reliability and transparency.
The issue of EVMs has remained a subject of political discussion, particularly during election periods. Several opposition leaders have demanded greater scrutiny and verification mechanisms, while election authorities have highlighted existing procedures involving VVPAT verification and security protocols.
Mayawati said that maintaining confidence among voters is crucial for democracy. She emphasised that doubts related to elections should be resolved through transparent mechanisms so that people continue to participate with trust.
The Election Commission has previously stated that EVM-related processes include technical and administrative safeguards, along with VVPAT verification procedures, to maintain transparency in elections.
