According to sources, the Congress high command has asked Siddaramaiah to step down from the Chief Minister’s post. Reports also suggest that the veteran leader could be offered a Rajya Sabha seat as part of the transition plan. However, the Congress party has not yet made any official announcement regarding the development.
However, Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal clarified that the recent high-level meeting regarding Karnataka focused solely on the upcoming Rajya Sabha and MLC elections. Dismissing speculation about any leadership change, he said discussions were limited to finalising candidates and added that the names would be announced soon.
The meetings took place at Indira Bhawan, the Congress headquarters in Delhi. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and several senior party leaders were present during the discussions.
Both Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar were called to Delhi separately. A few Karnataka ministers and leaders associated with both camps also arrived in the national capital amid increasing political activity.
The developments have once again brought attention to the long-running leadership debate within the Karnataka Congress.
