Parliament Set For Stormy Week As Centre Pushes Key Bills (Img: X)
New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of Parliament is expected to witness another turbulent week as the Centre prepares to introduce a series of key legislations while the Opposition plans to intensify its attack on the government over the Ram Mandir donation controversy, police action against students and other contentious issues.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to table the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) Amendment Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The proposed legislation seeks to strengthen the regulatory framework governing foreign funding received by non-governmental organisations (NGOs), trusts, associations and other registered entities.
Under the proposed changes, an organisation's FCRA registration certificate would automatically cease once it expires or if its renewal is rejected by the government. The Bill also proposes establishing a designated authority to oversee the supervision, management and disposal of foreign contributions and related assets.
The FCRA governs the receipt and utilisation of foreign contributions in India and is administered by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The law aims to ensure transparency while preventing foreign funds from being used in activities that could affect India's sovereignty, national security or public order.
Apart from the FCRA Amendment Bill, the government is expected to take up the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, the MSME Development (Amendment) Bill, the Indian Statistical Institute Bill, the Bankers' Books Evidence Bill, and Demands for Excess Grants for 2022-23 along with the related Appropriation Bill.
The Opposition is expected to target the government over police action during the July 20 student protest, the use of pellet guns, FIRs registered against demonstrators and the Ram Mandir donation controversy. Opposition leaders are also likely to seek an explanation from Home Minister Amit Shah on these issues.
Since the Monsoon Session began, repeated disruptions and adjournments have affected parliamentary proceedings as both the Treasury and Opposition benches remain locked in a confrontation over legislative business and politically sensitive matters. With several crucial Bills scheduled for discussion, another high-voltage week is expected inside Parliament.
