New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday met Congress secretaries to understand details of their work and the issues faced by them ahead of the upcoming AICC organisational reshuffle, which could bring new responsibilities for these leaders.

The meeting comes weeks after Rahul Gandhi interviewed potential candidates for the last two weeks for the appointment of new secretaries as part of the organisational revamp.

Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were also present during the meeting.

Roles Of Secretaries Likely To Be Redefined

While some general secretaries and in-charges have already been changed, the next phase of the reshuffle is expected to focus on the 56 secretaries working under the general secretaries, sources said.

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have reportedly asked secretaries to spend at least 15 days in their respective states, with an emphasis on touring, meeting people and strengthening grassroots connections rather than operating from Delhi.

Sources said Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal are looking to redefine the roles and responsibilities of party secretaries.

Around 100 aspiring leaders were reportedly interviewed in batches, with 12-14 candidates appearing in each batch.

Focus On Strengthening District Congress Committees

Apart from secretaries, the Congress leadership is also focusing on strengthening the role of District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents.

The party plans to categorise DCCs into A, B and C categories. Those falling under the C category, described as “non-performing”, may receive notices, party sources said.

Uttar Pradesh And Punjab Among Key Focus States

Party sources said the leadership is focusing on appointing new secretaries and DCC presidents in states such as Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

The organisational changes are being viewed as part of the Congress’ effort to strengthen its structure, improve grassroots engagement and prepare the party machinery for upcoming political challenges.
