Rahul Gandhi’s Diwali Gathering With Top Congress Leaders: Festive Meet Or Political Strategy?

For the first time, Rahul Gandhi is hosting a Diwali Milan at his official residence on Sunehri Bagh Road tomorrow for all AICC office bearers and CWC members, with Party Chief Mallikharjun Kharge also participating. It is obvious that, besides sweets, it will be a 'brainstorm' on SIR and future political moves.

New Delhi: In a first, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will host all senior AICC office bearers, Congress Working Members and general secretaries in charge of states for a Diwali get-together on November 6.

Although Congress insiders dubbed the get-together a festive season social interaction, it is expected that both sweets and strategy will find a place on the table.

Diwali Gathering To Bring Senior Congress Leadership Together

In the past, select senior leaders would visit the former Congress chief to wish him on Diwali, but this is the first time Rahul is hosting senior AICC leaders together.

"The LoP Lok Sabha will host all senior AICC functionaries at his official residence on November 6. It is just a Diwali-milap program, nothing else", an AICC functionary said. Yet, the interaction becomes significant as it comes in the middle of a nationwide agitation the Congress has launched to counter the NDA government over 'vote chori' through SIR.

'Vote Chori' Campaign And SIR Likely To Figure In Discussions

The Congress-led INDIA bloc staged a massive rally in Delhi on November 1, a day after the grouping passed a resolution demanding removal of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to showcase a united opposition against 'Vote chori'.

In this backdrop, a discussion on the current political situation and the way forward is expected to follow when senior AICC leaders converge at Rahul's residence on Friday in the presence of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge.

Further, the winter session of Parliament is likely to start by the end of the month, but Union Minister Amit Shah has already challenged the Congress to debate the SIR issue in a special session to allegedly expose the opposition.
