Vijayawada: YSRCP State General Secretary and MLC Lella Appi Reddy has accused the State Election Commission (SEC) of ignoring complaints and evidence of alleged irregularities during the MPTC and ZPTC elections. He made the allegations after submitting a complaint to the Commission along with other party leaders.
Reddy claimed that Supreme Court directions regarding CCTV cameras, videography, webcasting and voter protection were not properly implemented during the elections. He said cameras were installed at only 16,000 of the 31,500 polling booths across the state.
The YSRCP leader alleged that polling agents were removed and rigging took place in Kuppam. He also claimed that voters in Pulivendula were intimidated using petrol bombs, while party leaders and agents were detained.
Reddy further cited alleged attempts to obstruct polling in Krishna, NTR and Palnadu districts. He also referred to incidents in Punganur and Pileru, along with an alleged attack in Kuderu mandal of Uravakonda.
Reddy alleged that police and revenue officials had acted in favour of the ruling coalition during the elections.
He also claimed that YSRCP candidates who had won municipal elections were later declared defeated during counting through recounting exercises and pressure from TDP leaders.
The MLC said the party had submitted several complaints along with supporting evidence, but the SEC had failed to take effective action.
Reddy urged the Commission to preserve CCTV footage from counting centres, alleging that TDP leaders had moved around freely and influenced the counting process.
He said the party intended to use the footage to initiate legal proceedings against those responsible for the alleged irregularities.
