New Delhi: A delegation of Samajwadi Party leaders on Thursday visited the Hanuman Temple in Delhi’s Connaught Place and offered the funds collected during their protest at the Parliament premises over alleged irregularities related to Ram Mandir donations.
Speaking to reporters after the offering, Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav said the Opposition had repeatedly demanded a discussion in Parliament on the issue but the government did not allow time for a debate. He asserted that the Opposition would continue raising public concerns and seek accountability on matters involving faith, transparency and public trust.
Yadav alleged that the controversy surrounding Ram Mandir donations had hurt the sentiments of devotees and claimed that people expected answers from those responsible for managing religious contributions. He further accused the BJP of ignoring public emotions and alleged that the ruling party was focused on political and financial interests.

Responding to questions on why the delegation offered the collected amount at a Hanuman temple in Delhi instead of travelling to Ayodhya’s Hanuman Garhi Temple, Yadav said Lord Hanuman is considered a devoted follower of Lord Ram and conveys the wishes of devotees. He added that Delhi was chosen to accommodate party leaders and supporters who had arrived from different parts of the country.
The SP MP also spoke about party leader Azam Khan, who is currently lodged in Rampur jail in connection with multiple criminal cases. Yadav alleged that Khan had faced injustice and political persecution for several years, adding that the Samajwadi Party remained committed to supporting its leaders and would take steps regarding the matter. Legal proceedings in the cases against Khan are ongoing.
