New Delhi: Shehzad Poonawalla, who served as the national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has resigned from the party.
Poonawalla tendered his resignation to BJP and cited personal reasons for his move. However, neither Poonawalla nor BJP have made any statement regarding the matter.
After resigning from BJP, Poonawalla changed his bio on X (Formerly Twitter) by deleting BJP reference from his bio but maintained his description as “lifelong follower” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
No explanation was given by him about his move in the latest bio. But his recent social media activities revealed that he might be quitting politics.
Poonawalla has been posting videos recently in which he has discussed the topic of moving away from political activities and social contribution without participating in politics.
In one video, he has stated that contributions in politics cannot be restricted to winning elections but individuals have various ways of contributing to society.
Moreover, he has also posted one video in which he talked about his intention of participating in 2024 Lok Sabha elections as his last electoral battle.
In 2017, Poonawalla left the Congress party over differences on the process of conducting elections for president of the party and joined the BJP. As a result of joining the BJP, Poonawalla was made a national spokesperson and is famous for being critical of the Congress leaders and debating in politics.
He continued to be a staunch supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP till his time with the party.
