New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday mounted a sharp attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi after his allegation that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had authorised police action against student protesters triggered a major political row in the Lok Sabha.

BJP Demands Proof, Apology From Rahul Gandhi

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju led the BJP's response, calling Gandhi's allegation "baseless" and demanding that he either provide evidence to support his claim or apologise in the House.

Rijiju questioned the basis of Rahul Gandhi's statement and asked him to present any official order or evidence linking Amit Shah to the police action.

"Show the order of the Home Minister. Tell us which officer told you this. What is the basis of Rahul Gandhi's allegation?" Rijiju said during the heated Lok Sabha debate.

Rahul Gandhi Stands By Amit Shah Remark

The controversy erupted during the discussion on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, when Rahul Gandhi criticised the government's handling of student protests linked to the alleged paper leak issue.

Gandhi alleged that the use of force against students could only have been authorised at the highest level and questioned Amit Shah's absence from the House during the debate.

Despite repeated objections from BJP MPs, Gandhi continued with his remarks, leading to a heated exchange between the ruling party and the Opposition.

BJP Calls Allegation a Serious Matter

Rijiju said allegations against the Home Minister inside Parliament without evidence were a serious matter. He demanded that Gandhi clarify the source of his claim and withdraw the statement if he could not provide proof.

CJP Protest Becomes Political Flashpoint

The clash took place amid the continuing political debate over the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led student protests against alleged examination irregularities.

The protests and subsequent police action have become a major issue between the BJP and Opposition, with both sides accusing each other over accountability and the handling of the agitation.
