New Delhi: Jantar Mantar assault case has once again gained attention after a viral video allegedly featuring Swatantra Bhardwaj surfaced on social media. The video has triggered a political controversy, with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) demanding immediate action against the accused over alleged remarks related to the assault on student protester Nishu Aazad’s father, Sanjay Kumar.

CJP spokesperson Saurav Das and co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka reached the Parliament Street Police Station on Friday to seek action in the case. The organisation alleged that despite repeated complaints, strict sections were not added and the accused was allowed to remain free.

CJP Alleges Police Inaction

Saurav Das claimed that Sanjay Kumar was attacked during a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar and alleged that the incident involved serious charges, including an attempt to murder angle and provisions under the SC/ST Act.

He said the organisation had repeatedly approached police officials for stronger action but was asked to seek a court order.

Viral Video Triggers Political Fight

The controversy erupted after a podcast video went viral in which Swantantra Bhardwaj allegedly claimed responsibility for assaulting Sanjay Kumar. The CJP shared the clip and questioned why action had not been taken based on the alleged statement.

The issue also drew reactions from opposition leaders, who questioned the Delhi Police’s handling of the matter.

Accused Denies Allegations, Calls It Self-Defence

Swantantra Bhardwaj has rejected the allegations, claiming that the viral clip was edited and taken out of context. He said the incident was an act of self-defence and denied any attempt to attack anyone.

He also claimed that he is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Delhi Police Rejects Political Interference Claims

Delhi Police has denied allegations of political pressure or interference in the case. Police said Sanjay Kumar suffered a head injury during a scuffle and the injuries were medically examined and classified as simple.

Police officials stated that two accused persons were detained, questioned and legal proceedings are underway.

Heavy Security Outside Police Station

Ahead of the CJP delegation’s arrival, heavy security deployment was seen outside Parliament Street Police Station. The organisation has demanded strict legal action and a fresh investigation into the allegations.

The matter remains politically charged as both sides continue to present opposing claims over the Jantar Mantar clash.
