CM Yogi Adityanath and Akhilesh Yadav face off in the political race ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with a new survey highlighting voter preferences and election trends
New Delhi: Voters in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand appear more dissatisfied with their sitting MLAs than their state governments, according to recent surveys ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The findings indicate growing anger at the constituency level, but it has not uniformly turned into anti-incumbency against chief ministers or ruling parties.
The surveys suggest that issues related to accessibility of elected representatives, local development and constituency-level concerns could play a major role in shaping voter choices in the upcoming elections.
Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest dissatisfaction with sitting MLAs among the three states surveyed. Nearly 49% respondents expressed dissatisfaction with their current MLA, while 27.9% said they were satisfied.
However, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government received a comparatively better response, with 41.8% respondents expressing satisfaction against 38.4% who were dissatisfied.
Unemployment emerged as the biggest concern among UP voters, followed by farmers’ issues, education, healthcare, inflation and corruption-related concerns.
The survey showed a close electoral contest in Uttar Pradesh, with the BJP-led alliance ahead in voting preference over the Samajwadi Party alliance by a narrow margin.
Despite dissatisfaction with some MLAs, Yogi Adityanath remained the preferred chief ministerial face among respondents, ahead of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.
A similar trend was visible in Punjab and Uttarakhand, where voters expressed greater dissatisfaction with local legislators compared to their respective state governments.
In Punjab, the Bhagwant Mann-led government received better satisfaction ratings than individual MLAs, while drugs, unemployment and migration remained major concerns for voters.
Political analysts believe the dissatisfaction with sitting MLAs may influence ticket distribution and candidate selection before the 2027 elections. Parties may face pressure to replace unpopular legislators to improve their electoral prospects.
The survey suggests that while chief ministerial popularity remains important, the performance and image of individual candidates could become a decisive factor in several constituencies during the 2027 Assembly elections.
