Lucknow: As the 2027 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh draw closer, political activity has begun to intensify. Amid growing election buzz, Dynamite News Executive Editor Subhash Raturi spoke to correspondents from different districts during a live studio discussion to assess the ground situation.
A key question that emerged during the discussion was whether freebies and political announcements can address the real issues facing the people, or whether they are simply being used as a means to gain political power.
The ground assessment suggests that while people are struggling with inflation, unemployment, education, healthcare, farmers' incomes and everyday difficulties, political parties are making a series of attractive promises. In areas such as Banda, Badaun and Chandauli, the culture of freebies appears to be overshadowing local issues, leaving voters divided over the approach.
Yogi government's pitch: Ahead of the 2027 elections, the state government has announced one lakh government jobs for young people, cashless insurance of Rs 5 lakh for advocates, a multi-level parking facility for High Court lawyers, tablets for officials and free lifetime bus travel for women above the age of 60.
Samajwadi Party's promises: The party has promised financial assistance of Rs 40,000 if it comes to power, laptops and bicycles for girls who have passed Class 12, free travel for women on government buses and for girl students on the metro, reopening 26,000 closed primary schools, free education in government schools and half fees in private schools, along with the revamp of Anganwadi centres.
The question is whether these election promises will be able to address people's basic needs, or whether they will remain merely political tools during the election campaign.
