New Delhi: All 10 candidates for the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh have been elected unopposed, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing eight seats and the Samajwadi Party (SP) winning two. The development follows the scrutiny of nomination papers and the rejection of nominations filed by two independent candidates.
The announcement brings the election process for the 10 Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh to a close without a contest.
The candidates elected unopposed include Samajwadi Party leader Professor Ram Gopal Yadav, along with Dhanraj Parimal, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Priyanka Rawat, Gopi Pandey, Dharampal Singh, Radhakant Ojha, Prakash Pal, Ram Pratap Singh and Shruti Gangwar.
The election process concluded after officials completed the scrutiny of nomination papers and the withdrawal period. With the number of valid candidates matching the available seats, no polling was required.
The outcome reflects the distribution of the 10 seats between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party. The BJP secured eight seats, while the SP won two, with all candidates declared elected without opposition.
Rajya Sabha members represent their states in Parliament’s Upper House, where they participate in legislative debates, consider bills and contribute to parliamentary oversight.
The latest development in Uttar Pradesh comes as political parties continue to prepare for the state’s next Assembly election, scheduled for 2027. The election of the 10 Rajya Sabha members adds another development to the state’s political landscape.
