New Delhi: Completing 100 days in office, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari have highlighted their governments’ early achievements, showcasing two different approaches to governance.
While Vijay’s Tamil Nadu government has focused on welfare schemes, education, farmers and youth development, Suvendu Adhikari’s Bengal government has pushed welfare expansion, investment, administrative reforms and a crackdown on extortion.
The Tamil Nadu government marked its first 100 days with the theme “100 Days of Governance - A Government for Generations.” The administration highlighted initiatives related to women’s safety, skill development, farmers’ support and transparent governance.
A special task force for women’s safety has been created under the Singapenn Special Task Force initiative.
Among the major welfare measures, the government announced the Thaaimaaman Thanga Mothiram Scheme, under which newborns delivered in government hospitals will receive a 1-gram gold ring. The scheme has been allocated Rs 560 crore.
The Annan’s Seer Scheme provides eligible women with an 8-gram gold coin and silk saree for marriage, with Rs 812 crore allocated for the programme.
The government also expanded the breakfast scheme for students, covering additional students from Classes 6 to 8. A Rs 2,000 crore laptop scheme for college students has also been announced.
For farmers, the Vijay government announced a Rs 6,000 crore crop loan waiver along with incentives for sugarcane and paddy farmers.
The Vettri Skill Training Scheme has focused on improving employment opportunities for youth, while the government has also introduced housing and rural development initiatives.
The administration claims to have attracted investment commitments worth Rs 1 lakh crore through the Vettri Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2026.
In West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s first 100 days have focused on welfare continuation, administrative changes and attracting investments.
The government launched the Annapurna Bhandar Scheme, replacing the previous Lakshmir Bhandar scheme, with women beneficiaries receiving increased financial support.
The administration has also highlighted implementation of central schemes, including PM Kisan, PM Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat and Jal Jeevan Mission.
One of the key priorities of the Adhikari government has been action against alleged extortion and syndicate activities. The government has launched helplines for complaints related to illegal collections and organised local networks.
The administration has also taken steps to attract industries, announcing investment plans in sectors such as steel, textiles and tea.
The government has highlighted projects involving major business groups and said a single-window clearance system for large investments is being developed.
The first 100 days of Vijay and Suvendu Adhikari governments reflect different political priorities. Tamil Nadu’s approach has centred around welfare delivery, education and social support, while Bengal’s strategy combines welfare with administrative changes, investment promotion and law-and-order measures.
The effectiveness of these initiatives will depend on their implementation and impact on citizens in the coming months.
