“Where Can One Place Trust?” Akhilesh Yadav Questions EC Credibility Over SIR Row

Akhilesh Yadav questioned the Election Commission’s credibility over the SIR row, alleging SP supporters were systematically removed from voter lists. The EC has said all decisions were taken unanimously.

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday intensified his attack over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, questioning the credibility of the Election Commission after reports claimed objections were raised by two poll commissioners over certain decisions.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, Yadav asked, “Where can one place trust?” while raising concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission.

He alleged that voters supporting the Samajwadi Party were “systematically deleted” from electoral rolls and claimed that complaints raised before the poll body did not lead to corrective action.

SP chief refers to reported objections over SIR

Akhilesh Yadav’s remarks came after a report claimed that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised objections multiple times over decisions related to the SIR process and electoral roll procedures.

The SP chief said that concerns raised by officials within a constitutional body raised questions about transparency and accountability.

Election Commission rejects internal differences claim

The Election Commission has rejected reports suggesting internal disagreement among its members.

According to EC sources, all decisions related to the SIR process and other matters were taken collectively and approved by the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar along with the other commissioners.

Akhilesh also attacks UP government

Apart from the SIR issue, Akhilesh Yadav targeted the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, accusing it of arbitrary governance and criticising the use of demolition drives.

He also spoke about Ayodhya, saying the Samajwadi Party had never opposed the construction of the Ram Temple but alleged that local residents were affected by demolition actions.

SIR remains a political flashpoint

The SIR process has emerged as a major political issue, with opposition parties raising questions over electoral roll revision and transparency.

While opposition leaders have demanded greater accountability, the Election Commission has maintained that the revision process follows legal procedures and decisions are taken through established mechanisms.
