A techie in Bengaluru reportedly died by suicide

Bengaluru: A tech professional in Bengaluru reportedly ended his life following alleged harassment and monetary demands by neighbours, police said on Thursday. The incident took place at an under-construction property in Nallurhalli.

Neighbours Accused of Extortion and Harassment

According to a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Lakshmi Govindaraju, her son Murali, who has been constructing a house on a plot purchased in 2018, was repeatedly approached by neighbours Usha Nambiar and Shashi Nambiar. The complaint alleges that the duo demanded ₹20 lakh from Murali over a property-related dispute.

Lakshmi claimed that the neighbours, accompanied by personnel from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), visited the construction site and subjected her son to mental harassment when he refused to comply with their demands.

Tragic Discovery

Murali left home on the morning of December 3 and was later found dead on the second floor of the building. His body was discovered by a carpenter, Ganesh, who had come to the site for work and immediately alerted the family.

Following the complaint by Lakshmi, the police have registered a case against the two neighbours, and further investigation is underway. Legal action has been sought against the accused.

Separate Bengaluru Techie Murder Case

In a related incident, another Bengaluru tech professional, who had gone missing in late October, was found dead in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Shrinath K, 34, a software engineer from Attibele, Bengaluru, was reported missing on October 27. His body was discovered buried inside an abandoned house near Kuppam in Chittoor district, with the remains exhumed on November 16.

Police investigations revealed that Shrinath was allegedly murdered by his cousin, 39-year-old Prabhakar, a resident of Kuppam and a known offender. Shrinath lived with his wife, Neha MP, and their child in Smilee Celestial Layout at Neraluru, Bengaluru. After Shrinath failed to return home, Neha filed a missing person complaint with Attibele police on November 1, suspecting Prabhakar’s involvement.

Police Action and Investigation

Both cases have drawn attention to safety concerns for tech professionals in Bengaluru. While the first case involves alleged harassment and extortion leading to suicide, the second highlights familial disputes turning fatal. Investigations in both incidents are ongoing, with authorities promising strict action against the accused.
