New Delhi: Bengaluru police have arrested 32-year-old general surgeon Dr. Mahendra Reddy in connection with the death of his wife, Kruthika Reddy. The arrest comes six months after Kruthika, who had been staying at her father’s residence in Marathahalli, Bengaluru, was declared dead at a private hospital on April 23, 2025.

Police allege that Mahendra meticulously planned and executed the murder using his medical expertise.

According to officials, forensic analysis of Mahendra’s phone revealed a disturbing message sent to his lover shortly after Kruthika’s death. The message, sent via a digital payment application, read: “I killed my wife for you.” The woman who received the message has been questioned by police, though her identity has not been disclosed.

Medical Knowledge Used to Exploit Wife’s Health Vulnerabilities

Authorities say that Mahendra leveraged his professional knowledge to plan the murder. Kruthika had been suffering from long-standing gastric and metabolic disorders, which Mahendra reportedly learned about only after their marriage on May 26, 2024. The couple’s relationship reportedly deteriorated rapidly following this revelation.

“He knew her medical vulnerabilities and used his professional knowledge to exploit them. The evidence shows deliberate and precise use of anaesthetic drugs,” said Whitefield DCP M. Parashuram. Investigators confirmed that Kruthika’s death was caused by respiratory failure due to anaesthetic substances.

IV Injections Administered Under Pretext of Care

Police stated that Mahendra visited Kruthika at her father’s residence under the pretense of providing medical care. Over the course of two days, he allegedly administered intravenous injections containing anaesthetic agents. These injections caused Kruthika to lose consciousness repeatedly, culminating in her collapse on April 23, 2025, after which she was taken to a private hospital and declared dead upon arrival.

Initially, Kruthika’s family accepted the death as natural. However, her sister, Dr. Nikitha Reddy, insisted on determining the actual cause of death. Following her insistence, police registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) based on the hospital memo, which eventually led to a detailed forensic investigation implicating Mahendra.

Police Investigation and Next Steps

Police investigations revealed that Mahendra had planned the murder with careful attention to detail, using his medical training to exploit his wife’s vulnerabilities. He was subsequently arrested after forensic confirmation of the presence of anaesthetic agents causing respiratory failure.

Authorities continue to question those linked to the case and are examining all communications and digital evidence to determine the extent of premeditation and involvement of other parties.
