
Tamil Nadu CM Vijay hikes DA by 2% for state govt employees (Img: Internet)
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay on Wednesday announced a 2 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and teachers, offering financial relief to lakhs of beneficiaries across the state.
According to an official government release, the revised DA will come into effect from January 1, 2026. With the latest revision, the allowance has been increased from 58 per cent to 60 per cent.

The Tamil Nadu government said the DA revision would result in an additional annual expenditure of nearly Rs 1,230 crore for the state exchequer.
In a post shared by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Office on social media platform X, the government confirmed the revised rate and said the decision was aimed at supporting government staff and teachers amid rising living costs.
The government also stated that the required funds would be allocated to ensure smooth implementation of the revised allowance structure.
The official release said the welfare measure would benefit not only serving employees and teachers but also pensioners and family pensioners associated with the state government.
The statement highlighted the contribution of government employees and teachers in implementing welfare schemes and administrative programmes effectively across Tamil Nadu.
The government added that employee welfare remains a key priority of the newly formed administration.
The Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to introducing and implementing public welfare schemes in line with promises made during the Assembly elections.

Officials said the DA hike is part of the government’s broader focus on administrative welfare and financial support for public sector workers.
Alongside the DA announcement, CM Vijay also confirmed that women beneficiaries under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme would soon receive the May instalment of Rs 1,000.
The Tamil Nadu government said the amount would be directly credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts while the scheme undergoes restructuring.
During the recent Assembly elections, Vijay’s party had also promised enhanced financial assistance for women below the age of 60.
